Intentional Inspirations Newsletter - 7/25/20
Hello,
It seems when I start to get down and need some encouragement, I turn in my Bible to Psalm 91. It is just the reminder I need that if I stay where I am supposed to be, in the shelter of His arms, that I can put my trust in Him - always! Life is not easy right now, for anyone. There is so much going on in our world that is not making sense. Evil is reigning, Christians are being complacent, media is not being truthful, science is being politicized, and on and on it goes.
But you know what is never confusing, what never changes, what always has our best interest in mind? GOD - The One who created it all and reigns over all. The One who loves me, watches over me, empowers me by His Holy Spirit, emboldens me to obey, gives me courage when I am weak, humbles me when I am proud, gives strength and perseverance when I don't think I can go on. God is the one that you and I can put our full trust in right now. We cannot put our trust in a president, in our political party, in our ideologies, in our own strength -- God alone is the One we put our trust in, and He is the One worthy of all our praise.
This week I was reading with the kids the story of Daniel and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. We are in the Old Testament in our Bible reading and these stories came up this week. Daniel was told he could no longer pray to God as he was accustomed to praying at set times during the day. He continued to pray. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were told by the king that they had to bow down to an idol or they would be thrown into the fiery furnace. They did not bow. Here is what these three men told the king:
"If the God whom we serve exists, then He is able to deliver us from the blazing fiery furnace and from your hand, O king. But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden statue you have set up.” Daniel 3:17-18
As Christians, we need to be aware of the times we are living in. We need to not be afraid to stand for Truth, to continue to obey God no matter what governing authorities are telling us. Yes God instituted governing authorities, as Romans 13 talks about. But God's intent for the governing authorities was to punish evil and reward good - to uphold God's Truth as found in His Word. When our governing authorities become unlawful, start punishing good and rewarding evil, we are to obey God like these brave men in Daniel's time.
These times are challenging, but exciting at the same time. Christians are being challenged to get off the bench and into the battle. Christ followers are being challenged to decide if they will follow Christ or man, no matter what. God doesn't promise that if we follow Him that our days will be easy. But He does promise an amazing reward in Heaven, and each day that we live for Him here on earth, is one day closer to our eternal home in Heaven.
Until that day comes, I am choosing to continue to obey the Lord no matter how hard it gets. I will continue to stand for Truth, no matter how many criticize me. No matter what happens, I will praise Him. He is my life, my breath, my strength, my all.
