Intentional Inspirations Newsletter - 6/23/23
In my daily Bible time, the common theme it seems has been the sufficiency and inerrancy of the Bible. I am coming to understand more and more how very precious Godโs Word is to us and it breaks my heart to see churches and pastors moving away from the Bible, claiming that the Bible us just a book of literature or book of wisdom and it not without error. I was so excited to get this resource in the mail this week! You can read my Facebook post here about it. Be sure to look in the comments for screenshots of some pages on the inside. It is an amazing resource!
This newsletter got kind of long because I go into great detail about how I started using Workflowy again! Be sure to check that out! I also wanted to mention an app I am using to track some habits I am working on. It is an Android app called Habit Now. If you have an iPhone, Iโm sure you can find something similar in the Apple store. I didnโt want to clutter my calendar with these habits, so I am using that app to track things like drinking water, taking my vitamins, exercise, etc.
Have fun reading through my long explanation of how I am giving Workflowy a try again. Enjoy and have a great week!
Giving Workflowy Another Chance!
This week I have been experimenting again with Workflowy. For some reason, Workflowy appeals to me, probably because I am very much a list person! If you are not familiar with Workflowy, it is a list making app on steroids! There is a free version available that has some limits on number of items and storage allowed, and there is a paid version that gives you unlimited space. Most people are fine with the free version, but if you end up really using it a lot and storing a lot of information in it, then you may have to graduate to the paid version. Workflowy is available online, and also as a web app, and app on your phone. All versions sync together so you can access and edit your notes on any device at any time.
I have used it in the past to jot down notes, to do lists, etc., but never really tried using it as a calendar and daily planner โ until this week! So far I am liking it. Above is pictured my Daily Planner where I have my day divided up into three sections - Morning, Afternoon, and Evening. On the left you can see my monthly calendar where I have a section for each day of the month. Items that need to be done on certain days/times are placed under the right days and moved over to my Daily Planner when I am prepping my calendar for the next day.
Every day as I complete items on my Daily Planner, the items are either deleted if it is something that does not repeat at all, or they are moved over to my monthly calendar area to the next day that items repeats. For example, I have laundry schedule for every Tuesday. So on Tuesdays when I am done with Laundry, it is moved and put under the next Tuesday. I hope that makes sense!
In the image above, you can see what the monthly section looks like. Each day under the month holds items for that day, waiting to be moved to the Daily Planner when that day comes up. In Workflowy, you simply drag and drop the items from where they are over to the Daily Planner. Itโs so easy and just takes a few minutes each night to get the next day ready.
If you notice on Saturday, I have three items: FORWARD LOG, REFLECT, & PRIORITIES. These three items stay on my calendar for each Saturday so they can be reviewed and any โto doโ items that I want added to my calendar for the coming week can be added. Here are what these three areas are for:
FORWARD LOG: This is your place to keep anything coming up that needs to be done. You can organize by project, by person, or however makes sense to you. Each Saturday I can look these items over and see what I want to add to the calendar for the coming week. Right now I am using this section to plan our upcoming vacation. If I clicked on Family Vacation, it would show more lists under that for our schedule, our menus, things to take, things to do, and more.
REFLECT: I donโt have anything in this section yet, but here is where you can jot things down that you want to improve on or work on. Here is where you can do more journaling if you want and write down ides and thoughts you want to reflect on.
PRIORITIES: I have not worked at filling in this section much either, but this area is where you can put activities that you want to do that align with your goals and priorities. For example, if one of your goals is spending more one on one time with your kids, you may add doing something fun with each child under the โONCE A MONTHโ section. If you are working on writing a book, you may want to add โWritingโ under the Daily-1 hour section. Then each Saturday when you look over these items you can figure out which ones you can add to your calendar for the week!
So I showed you around the Timeline/Calendar section, now I want to show you some other ideas you can use Workflowy for. I am just beginning to use Workflowy again so I donโt have a lot here, but above you can see that I have a โHOW TO DOโ section where I will keep any type of tech stuff that I want to remember how to do, along with websites to help. I also started a โBook Notesโ section. As I read books, I plan on using this section to keep quotes from the books.
If I end up sticking with Workflowy, I will write some more on how I am using it for other things besides my calendar. One other items I wanted to mention, is that Workflowy makes it very easy to export all your data. You can do a โcopy and pasteโ of all your data into anywhere you want, OR download and save ALL your notes in several different style options โ HTML, Plain Text, or OPML. This makes it really easy to do a backup of all your data so you donโt have to worry about losing it!
Have I convinced you to give Workflowy a try yet? If you like making lists or just need somewhere to do a brain dump and get it organized, Workflowy may be for you!
Iโd love to hear some feedback on how you guys are using Workflowy, if you decide to give it a try. Or if you are an experienced Workflowy user, please share in the comments your experience and how you are using it! I would love to hear your ideas and learn new ways to use this amazing tool!
